I know it's in a while but I like to plan ahead. I am just wondering what upgrades to get for my PC. I will be playing games a lot, and sometimes doing programming, video editing, 3d modeling, and other content creation type of stuff, but mainly gaming. My original plan was to get a gtx 970, and maybe a gtx 980 if I get enough money. But then i realized that for the price of a 980 I could get a 970 and a new CPU, killing 2 birds with one stone. Which option would be better, and within each option, what should I get? I am estimating that $650 will be the unlikely MAX, so maybe 4 price points: ~350, ~450, ~550 and maybe ~650. So with each price point, what should I do?
My current PC:
i3 4130 3.4 GHZ
Gtx 750ti reference EVGA
8GB RAM
2tb hdd
SSD w/ windows 7
Rosewill capstone 750W 80+ Gold
MSI Z97 G45
1080p monitor (primary) and 1680*1050 monitor

Thanks!

Go for an EVGA card, their customer service is second to none. They also have great aftermarket coolers and GPU Boost makes use of the extra cooling. Just look out for cards with an ACX cooler on them. Hope this helps :D.

Ok, thanks, and what if I were to get about 650$, what CPU and gpu would be a good idea? I was looking at 4770k, also, I have a good CPU cooler and would like to over clock.

Depends where you want to shift the focus of your rig. If you want to get the best out of games since you said you will be mainly gaming, go with an i5 and GTX 970. If you want to have the hyperthreading capability of the i7 for your video editing and 3D modelling then go with that and an R9 290 (if you can get a 290X go for it). Up to you at the end of the day, hope this helps :D.
