Is there a difference in how a display looks with HDMI vs VGA vs DVI?

Solution
VGA is an analog signal and therefore lower quality, so yeah DVI will give you better pixel and overall video clarity and quality. Generally HDMI and DVI will look quite similar, just make sure you choose HDMI 2.0 since anything below 2.0 like the HDMI 1.4 will only support 30fps limiting yoru gaming performance.

The general consensus is that Displayport is typically best for high res video quality, but if you won't be doing any gaming and only watching movies/videos you won't need a Displayport. Furthermore, displayport is extremely uncommon for TV, it's mostly something you only see on monitors. HDMI (as long as it's 2.0) however, doesn't have anything really making it "worse" than displayport, it supports up to 3820x2160p...

Personally, I don't see any difference with HDMI and DVI(I'm running a digital signal although DVI can be analog too) but I can see a difference between the two and VGA. Text and images appear more clearly to me but that's just my two cents.

HDMI (as long as it's 2.0) however, doesn't have anything really making it "worse" than displayport, it supports up to 3820x2160p resolution just like Displayport, supports 60fps as long as it's HDMI 2.0, and is an all digital signal so you can't go wrong either way.

So, overall

Displayport or HDMI 2.0 = Best choice overall, high quality

DVI = Tied with DP and HDMI for best choice on PC, typically not an option on TV's however.

HDMI 1.4 = Avoid if you're watching 60fps videos or if you are a Gamer, otherwise it's fine

VGA = Stay away if possible, Analog signal, tends to be foggy and lower pixel quality
