I'm wondering if a HDD fan can actually be bad for the HDD? Say if it's actually blowing dust on (or maybe even into the HDD) and causes the HDD to be hotter and possibility damage the HDD?
I'm asking because I'm debating on which enclosure I should go for (one being with a fan and tool-less the other being tools required but fanless).
I like this one b/c it is tool-less:

However, it has a fan on it. In my experience and where I stay (not very prone to dust, but I have to dust off every couple weeks), excessive fan use can actually collect and cause more dust on my components and increase heat unless I clean the fans every 2-4 weeks. So I only use fans where needed. I don't use "extra fans".
Then, I was thinking about getting this one:

I had an older model of this enclosure that was tool-less, but it was USB 2.0. I used a Green WD HDD, and it stayed pretty cool despite using it with a fanless enclosure. However, this newer model it is not a screwless/tool-less design, and the price is a little more.
The fan design is cool, but I'm afraid if I go with the fan design, over a couple of weeks, it will just start blowing dust on/into my HDD, and if dust gets trapped inside the HDD, it won't come out.
