Hi,

I have a build with an NZXT H440, which has no front panel slot for an optical drive. I only need the optical drive temporarily for installing the OS.

Any recommendations on how I should do this? Should I just rest the optical drive anywhere in the case while doing the OS install? Is it ok to use it outside the case?

Thanks!

so long as you don't bump it around it'll be fine just sitting wherever it can for that short time. i've had to do this myself a couple times.

just be sure it's stable while it works. i set a book on top of mine to kind of weigh it down while it was working and did not have any issues

Interesting. During the write, did you get the impression that it was moving at all? I'm deciding whether I should make this precaution as well.
