My son wants a pc to play Minecraft. I haven't built a pc in about 12 years or so I'm a bit out of the loop. PCIE was the new thing when I built my gaming pc to play CS and what not back then.
Today my wife asked if I could put something together for around 400 and I did a quick look around and came up with this(closer to 500+ w tax). Will this work out o.k. to to get him playing at a decent frame rate?.
Microcenter is a 20 minutes away so my build was based on them.
cpu:amd a10 785024.0 GHZ
mobo:gigabyte gaf2a58m hd2
psu: thermaltake tr2 600w atx
ram: crucial ballistix sport 8gb ddr3-1600 pc 12800. 4x2
video: msi gforce gt 610 low pro 2048mb ddr 3 pcie
hd: WD blu 1 tb 7200 rpm sata 6.0 gbs
case: thermaltake V3
os: windows 7 home pro

Any help appreciated thanks.

The core of your build is fine for playing Minecraft. Microcenter has a great deal on the AMD A10 7850 and Gigabyte mobo, but they make up for it by having higher prices on the other parts. The cpu and mobo is fine for playing Minecraft. You do not need the GT610 gpu the one in the A10 is better. You do not need a 600w psu. A 400w is more that enough. The A10 cpu works much better with high speed RAM. The case is not that good. I recommend going to Newegg.com and getting a Antec VP450 psu for $35 -20mir, 8GB of G. Skill Ripjaws DDR3 2400 RAM for $64 and a Corsair Spec-01 case for $40 -10 mir. Newegg has very good service and reason shipping.

honestly the a10 is enough without the extra graphics card. if you wish to use the extra card i'd suggest a shift to an fx-6300 which is actually a lot cheaper and of course an am3+ mobo for it. will actually be cheaper than what you got picked there.

horrible build. the integrated graphics is probably faster than the gt 610. but its a race in the lowest cellar anyway. they want to dump their old stuff on you. i dont know how demanding minecraft is, but this pc isnt even low end. im sure some guys here can come up with something better.

not sure what this guy is smoking but clearly not too informed on low budget builds. first thing to do is maybe look up minecraft requirements before declaring something horrible for that purpose..... just a thought anyway.

Thanks guys , no integrated graphics on mobo as far as I know, i'll double check. The graphics card was 47.99 @ micro, any other suggestions at around that price?.
mobo was free w bundle of cpu.

not on the mobo but the cpu itself has built in graphics. the a10-7850 has amd r7 level graphics built in which is good enough for your minecraft build. the mobo will have the video outputs needed such as vga, dvi and/or hdmi. i know the last time you built a pc the graphics could be built into the mobo but thats gone now. all the intel i-chips and pentiums have built in graphics on the chips and the amd a series chips do as well, other amd chips do as well but i'm not sure which ones.

edit: the fx-6300 i spoke of does not have integrated graphics so will need the extra graphics with it. something like a 750ti would be low power and more than enough for minecraft.

oh shoot now I feel like I've been on gilligans island. So I the cpu video is better than the video card?.If so I'll just go with that and he can get a better video card for his birthday or whenever.
So would this be ok?, if so I think I'm going with it.

The A series of AMD CPU's all have graphics built in to them. The A10-7850K that you listed actually out performs the GT 610 you listed. If you're going to go for a video card that beats out the built in GPU, look in to something in the 650 or higher series. The 650ti is a fantastic card for a sub $150 card.

If you go with an FX processor you will get a stronger CPU than the A series but you'll lose the built in graphics. You'll also have to change out the motherboard from a FM2+ series board to an AM3+ board. The FX 6300 CPU will cost less than the A10-7850k CPU but you will have to buy a video card, so the costs will equal out, but you'll end up with a stronger build.

The PSU could stand to be changed, I'd really recommend going for something higher end. Too many people go cheap on the PSU and its always a bad plan. Check out this link for a tier system of PSU's. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1804779/power-supply-unit-tier-list.html

The RAM is fine. Its not higher performance but its not low end. If you went to something like Ripjaws or Ballistix tactical you could improve the timings a bit but he'll never notice the difference either way.

The hard drive is more than fine. The Blue series is a good consumer level drive.

The case looks good. Lots of air flow and room to grow if you or your son decide to geek out on things.
