Hello ,

I would like to know if its possible to use my current cpu if I bought a new motherboard .
Lets say I have an Intel i5-4440 and I just bought Asus RoG Maximus VII Impact , can I still use the old cpu or do I need to buy a new one just like windows.

Solution
so long as the mobo has the same slot as the cpu you can use it. the i5 in your example is an lg-1150 cpu so if you get another 1150 mobo your good to go.

You don't need a new windows either. Unless you plan on using the older motherboard with a different CPU you can use the same license used on the original computer and use it on the new motherboard build.

i5 4440 is an LGA 1150 CPU. The motherboard Maximus VII is also an LGA 1150 Z97 motherboard. Yes the old CPU will fit and work with the new motherboard.

Sometimes windows will fail to reactivate automatically when you change motherboards. If that is the case you can reactivate over the phone. It is a pain but does work.

I've been googling around on win 8 OEM and I got mixed answers some say that its tied to your first mobo and some said that you can transfer to a new system . I dont know , maybe I should try buying mobo and install the OEM version ( I still have the disc and the key) if it doesnt work I might just buy a new OS .
