Before I get to the problem, let me post my PC specs.

-NZXT Gamma case
-ASRock B75M-DGS motherboard
-Antec Earthwatts 380w power supply
-Intel Core i5-3570 processor
-8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM
-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 video card
-500GB internal hard drive
-1TB external hard drive

This problem started last week on Monday night. After I shut down my computer, I opened the rig to clean up some dust inside. Not only that, but I also wanted to check what kind of power supply I had and what the brand name of my RAM is. See, I have two 4GB RAM cares from two différent brands. One is a Kingston HyperX RAM, the other is a TeamGroup Xtreem RAM. So anyway, I cleaned my rig and did not remove anything except the RAM, which I put back after I was done. Now there should be no problem afterwards, right?

Well, the next day, which was Tuesday, I turn on my PC and for some strange reason it turns on and off. I don't know what happened that caused it, but it shouldn't have happened. Assuming that it was the RAM that caused the problem, I removed the TeamGroup RAM and left the Kingston RAM inside. This time, my PC would stay on but nothing would display, the keyboard and mouse would not light up, and the sound won't turn on.

Throughout the day, I kept switching between memory slots with the same RAM to see what would work. Still nothing. Then I cleared the CMOS by removing and putting back the battery on the motherboard. Still nothing. It wasn't until later that night when I gave up and put back the TeamGroup RAM and then FINALLY my PC was fully functional again. All I DID was use the internet and watch videos downloaded to my hard drive. I thought it was all over.

About 5 hours later, my PC would shut off again. It was back to the same problem: power on, no display. So I removed the TeamGroup RAM again, reseated it, and my PC turned back on again like normal. An hour later after simply web browsing, PC shuts off again. Did the same thing before but this time it would not turn back on again.

Wendesday morning, I removed RAM and switched between RAM to see if I can get it to work again. Still the same problem. It wasn't until the afternoon when my PC was running normal again after once again removing and reseating the RAM. Worked fine for the rest of the day.

Thursday, worked fine for the whole day.

Friday, it worked fine until it shut down on me after installing and uninstalling a program I didn't like. Afterwards, I simply turned it back on and it worked perfectly fine. An hour later, shuts off on me again. Turned it back on, no display. So I took out the RAM again, reseated it again, still nothing. However, after about half an hour later in the afternoon, my PC was running fine after doing the same thing. Worked fine for the rest of the day. Even played some games like TF2 and Wolfenstein: The New Order.

Saturday was just like Thursday, no problems whatsoever.

Now we come to Sunday. PC was working fine in the morning and early afternoon. Then after browsing the internet, my PC shuts off on me yet again. Did the same thing as before in hopes of fixing it. This time, it would never display anything or light up my USB keyboard/mice/speakers.

I was gonna buy new RAM, but I wasn't certain if that was the problem. What if I bought new RAM and I was still having the same problem? I certainly hope it's not the power supply or the video card. I don't wanna take it to a repair shop because 1) I don't know how long they'll take and 2) How much are they gonna cost me to even diagnose a problem let alone fix it?

I've had my gaming PC for two years now. I upgraded the RAM to 8GB shortly after buying this rig, which originally had 4GB. For the longest time, my PC had an Intel Pentium G620. It wasn't until the Spring of this year when I upgraded to the Core i5, which worked beautifully even when playing games. I can play the newest games today such as Wolfenstein: The New Order and Shadow Of Mordor. But after cleaning my PC on Monday, I don't know went wrong.

Sorry for the long post. But if anyone can help me here, I would really appreciate it.

You could try removing the capture card and see if there are any differences, if there aren't then I don't think it's a problem. It seems like you tested the RAM pretty extensively, and the fact that there are still problems suggests that it might not be the RAM. It's possible your motherboard is dying. This would explain your peripherals/display not working, and possibly your...

A very similar thing happened to one of my friend's computers, and it turned out that his internal hard drive wasn't completely plugged in and the motherboard didn't even detect it. I'm not sure if this will help you, but you might want to check in the BIOS just to make sure that it detects the hard drive.

How can I check the BIOS if my PC won't display anything when it turns on nor does my USB devices turn on (keyboard, mouse, etc.)?

Oh and I should point out something. I also have the AVerTV HD DVR capture card, which is an internal capture card. Lately, when I record something, my computer would blue screen on me. Could this also be a sign of failing RAM?

If you have another computer or have access to another, you could try testing individual components in that computer and see if they all work right.

I certainly hope the motherboard isn't dying. But when I turn it on, all the fans (case, CPU, video card, etc.) spin just fine like it would normally do. Plus I can hear the hard drives and disc drive running. If all of those are working with the power on, that means the motherboard is detecting them. Unless I'm missing something here.

Unfortunately, I don't have a second computer anymore. I sold it back in June.

I bought new RAM yesterday. Hopefully everything works when I start using it.

Well I just tested the new RAM on my PC. It's the G.SKILL 8GB DDR3.

Unfortunately, same results: power on, no display and keyboard and mouse lights don't turn on.

Looks like I'm gonna have to take it to a repair man for this.

Good news! My PC is working again! I took your advice by removing the capture card and now it's up and running!

Hopefully this time, it'll stay on.
