I was wondering whether i should get the WD Black 2tb drive or the seagate 3tb, I have heard WD black drives are better but is it worth the thirty dollar and loss of a terabyte premium?
Don't buy Seagate whatever you do. I used to love those, but now they are terrible (especially any with "DM" in the model). The failure rates are extremely high, and the chances of successful data recovery when they do fail is extremely low. In my data recovery lab we had to add a new pricing tier just for those drives because we're wasting too much time with them.
WD black drives perform better and have a much better warranty (5 years vs. 2 years), but as you said, it comes with a premium. I guess the biggest question is what will you be primarily using the drive for?
Both drives are decent. The WD black is slightly faster and more responsive for gaming, etc. But if you think you will need another terabyte, get the seagate drive. You pay for the WD 5 year warranty. I have several of both manufacturers and like them both.
