Hello,

I am looking to build a really inexpensive HTPC/Steam Streaming box. I don't know what CPU to get. I am looking at these two because they are the least expensive and produce less heat the most others CPUs. I am using a low profile HTPC case, so I would like to have it as cool as possible.

Are these CPUs alright for what I need them for? I don't know the difference in the iGPUs in these two, either. I am sure that the HD4600 in the i3 is much better than the Intel Graphics in the Pentium, but how much better? Can I still stream games and watch 1080p/3D videos with the Pentium?

Here are the two CPUs:
Intel Core i3-4360 Processor (4M Cache, 3.70 GHz) BX80646I34360
Intel Pentium Processor G3250 (3.20 GHz 32 GB, FCLGA1.150) BX80646G3250

Thank you in advance for your help.

Solution
For streaming and stuff like that, the G3250 will be enough, but the graphics on the i3 are better. For gaming, the i3's graphics are better.
I wouldn't get an APU as the CPU in those are VERY weak.

For HTPC/ Steam streaming; both CPUs should work fine.
The graphics in the i3 is quite a bit better than the Pentium. Gaming on the Pentium's IGP isn't an option as a result, but should be fine for video / streaming.
An option you may want to consider though is the AMD A8-7600. The CPU is a full quad core with better integrated graphics and the option to be able to run it at a 45 watt mode. It is also priced between the Pentium and i3.

Personally for this purpose I'd get amd apu better graphics and more then enough CPU power something like a a8 7600 uses only about 15w more and at full power but has much better graphics and has 4 core vs 2 also is cheaper

I don't think CPU power is much of a concert for this build it is now a gaming / rendering build a apu has more then enough CPU power for this it also supposed to be budget even if he was gaming the apu graphics would.limit him before CPU power becomes an issue
