i just took my z87I-deluxe out of a previous build and put it in a new build for my daughter..the old build had an i7 4770k and the new build as an i3 4150

the board was perfect in my old build, but now the dram led red light is on and will not go off and i do not have any display..the computer will run as long as you leave it on but the monitor is blank

i disconnected all the ssd's and then used the mem ok function to try and sync the ram which i know is compatible because i looked it up on kingston's website

so i did a few reboots trying the mem ok but it's still not showing anything on the monitor and the light is still on

what could be the issue?

Solution
i did a clr cmos

that should of did the trick on that -- but if you still got the issues you may have to set up as you did the old way to display and be sure the bios is to the one for the I 3 chip cause it needs a newer bios then your old i7 did if that's the case there
I do like the fact the 4770k calls for bios 0402 but theres not a bios 0402 listed .. lol, asus

Core i7-4770K (3.5Ghz, 4C, L3:8M, GT2, 84W, rev.C0) ALL '' 0402''

kinda makes you wonder what other info is bad or wrong ???

i was really careful with the new swap out but if this new bios flash doesn't work, then i will inspect the grid for any bent pins..thanks again for the help!

I would seems to me that if only the chip was changed from a working build as you said the I feel it comes down to the 2 things as 1 unsupported bios for the new chip or a bent pin when changing them out -- barring you just got a defective chip new out of its box

one more thing I don't know if your only getting a no display from going in to windows or is it no display right from the get go? as in cant display nothing at all from start up [no bios -splash screen nothing ??

when i boot up there's no display at all..i used 3 different graphics cards to check the vga and only the dram led light comes on..so yes no display from the get go

ok reason I asked was that if it was displaying the bios screen but not after that like when it goes to windows it may of been a windows issue so it seems were back to the bios or pins ?????

I have seen windows reject a new chip and needed to be reinstalled .. I should of refreshed what you first said about unhooking the drives -- sorry

the bios flashback did not work but wanted to make sure i did it right

i went to the link, downloaded the .CAP file and placed that file onto the usb drive

then inserted that into the flashback bios port assigned for flashing the bios

pressed the button until it started flashing

waited for it to stop flashing then booted up the computer

is this correct?

i remember you used to have to use some utility app to rename
it so not sure if that's still something you have to do?

or if there's some other app that needs to be used before placing
the final file in the usb drive?

found it..it's Z87ID.CAP for this motherboard..not sure why they can't just have a list of all the file names
rather than making you create it yourself?

anyway i'm going to try this now and will update

hard to say with out having hands on I do know my ''last'' 3 asus were my last 3 asus due to things like this all the time with them seemed always something .. I don't own that board but it should not be that complicated to do a usb bios flash

just like this crap got to support and want to find out about the ez flash2 whats on your s and most all asus boards and get this from them -0- results

so its like how can I help you if they [asus] cant ??? that's whats sad

ok solved the issue..it was 2 bent pins on the motherboard..this is my 10th build and
i know i placed it in properly, so i've come to the conclusion that those pins were
damaged sometime between when i took it out of the old build and put it in the new
build..it had been stored for a few weeks so it must have happened then. i didn't
have the factory cover for it to help protect it

heck you may look the repair how to up and do it your self if it don't work out then get a new board a little time and effort may save the day and a $100+ in the end ??

heck man I don't know what you should do or what your skill set is for doing something like that except do what you fell is best for you ??? its a crap deal when that happens anyway all around ... in the end a new undamaged board may be the best bet ???

yeh because of my current time constraints my best bet is to get a new board..it was my mistake, so now i'll just have to own up to it and pay for it..the upside is my daughter will have a new gaming computer for her upcoming birthday :) thanks again for all your help junkeymonkey!
