I was about to process my order for the Kingston 240gb SSDNow V300 but figured I would ask the experts (you guys) first. I was going back and forth between Kingston SSDNow V300 and Sandisk Ultra II and even the Samsung 840evo. The Kingston is $74 and the Sandisk and Samsung are both about $100 so is it worth the extra $25 for either of the 2, they are all 240-250GB.

Solution
Samsung 840 evo is the premium model like the iPhone where all SSD will be compared against.
Sandisk Ultra II can match the 840 EVO but it trades blows.
840 EVO does have hardware encryption whilst Sandisk Ultra II does not.
I would not consider Kingston SSDNow V300 since the last time they switch to cheaper slower NAND.

I read about the whole Kingston NAND conspiracy in the reviews and a lot of people are very unhappy. I have read good things about both the Sandisk Ultra 2 and 840 EVO so I am stumped. I am switching from an HDD so I'm sure either one will be a huge improvement but I was more worried about reliability and if there was a huge difference in speed.

Don't worry about reliability or lifespan, they should work out just fine. Current SSD will most likely outlive you before dying unless you use SSD in a data center.

No, storage don't care what OS you have. Nor if you have a desktop or laptop. As long you have a SATA data and SATA power cable you are fine. Same with hard drives.
Samsung 840 EVO are good but can be pricey. Black Friday probably have discounts for these SSD but you missed them.
Crucial MX100 is one alternative to Samsung 840 EVOs.

I figured as much but just to be safe I asked anyway. The Crucial is $100, the same price as the 840 evo so I guess I will go with that. Can't wait to see what all the SSD hype is about. My PC went from 30 second start up to about 3 minute start up so it will be nice. Thanks for all the help

It will go back to 30 second startup time and it shouldn't slow down as you use more storage. Transferring files between SSD and HDD is quick. Loading application that is installed on the SSD is quicker.

What I meant isthe the Samsung 840 EVO is like how Iphone are used to be compared to other new phones. Didn't say they were top of the line but you got to give them something since they do have good quality build.

Yeah I know what you meant I was just messing with you. Aside from the Iphone screen cracking every time you sneeze on it the rest of the phone is built pretty solid. Just confirmed my order for the 840 EVO, $99 with free shipping so thanks again
