Can you play a DVD on the LG SP60NB50? If so, how? I installed the disk, but it won't play....

connect it to a computer... It is not a dvd player. Its just the drive part.
If your computer is windows 8 you will also need to install player software. Win8 cannot play dvd's without additional software such as vlc media player which is free.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately when I bought my new laptop (HP envy) they told me that the LG SP60NB50 would do everything I needed. So I bought both, and the DVD Writer is great, but I was led to believe it would play DVD's as well. So now I am not sure what to do.
If I download the VLC will this let me play a DVD off of the DVD Writer? The computer I bought does not have an internal drive. Thanks again for the help!!!!!!!!!!!
