I have been debating on whether or not should I buy a pre assembled computer or build one myself. I would really like the opportunity of building one however I am quite clueless on where to begin. Looking at a budget around $1,200. I plan to use my 39" as a display with a wireless keyboard and mouse (I have a decent one but open to other options). I would like to also use this set-up for for a fair amount of time before upgrading also.

With this computer I plan on:

  • - Playing some graphic intense games (Moderate amount since I do not plan on getting the PS4 or Xbox One in the near future)

    - Streaming media (Netflix, HD videos, music, etc)

    - Developing apps and working on graphic designs

    - Also I would like to have some personality in appearance instead of begin just a black box on a desk. Led lights would be nice to have.
Thank you for taking a moment and reading. Any advice would be nice.

After been here a while, I am quite worried about people jumping in at the deep end. I would suggest getting into things in a low-risk way, by either building a low-end cheap computer first, or by upgrading an existing PC.

I got my start by upgrading and then modding the case to add fans and ventilation for the case.

My second build I wanted "personality" so I disassembled the case, painted parts, even painted some of the drives etc. with fluorescent paint, added LED lightning and then grew tired of it in no time at all.

These days I build quiet, compact and dark computers that are as unobtrusive as possible.

Very true I completely under stand with what you are saying. I am fairly tech savvy I just do not have any experience dealing with building computers and the hardware aspects. With the LED lighting I don't mean lighting the entire room just to add a bit of color to the computer.
