I just bought an msi r9 290x, and when I install it, my computer will turn on, and all the fans spin, but I get no signal on my monitor. I already know its not my monitor or the pci slot, because my computer works with my old card. I know its not the card or my psu, because the card worked in another computer with my psu. Also its not the monitor or hdmi cable because it works with my old card. Also know its not the hdmi port on the new card, because it worked using hdmi on another computer. Also I deleted all of my old cards drivers. Think it might have something to do with my motherboard or cpu. I would really appreciate some help if anyone knows whats wrong.

Solution
Your CPU is fine.
Change your mobo if you want.
Just get a newer compatible mobo that will fit your FX 6100 shouldn't be much of a problem. any 990FX mobo you can get is fine.
You should still get rid of the 2gb. stick. 2x4 gb is dual channel. The machine won't know if you put in another 2gb on to of 2x4gb what to do. just 10gb is bad idea.

Is everything connected?
Power cables to monitor?
6/8 pins cable to both side (modular PSU and card)
HDMI cable to both monitor and card (change HDMI slot)
press the reset button?
Is the monitor turned On? Turn it off, and then on.

I honestly couldnt tell you what motherboard I have. Its just the peice of trash that comes with a prebuilt hp computer. And how would I go about updating BIOS/ would it even matter since I cant even boot with the new card?

Yes, everything is connected, the monitor is on, connected, and working. I know my way around a computer, its not anything simple like this.

its an hp pavilion (not sure of the exact model). Its about 2 or 2 and half years old. And yes, to be able to use my computer right now, I have to use the old card, which is an xfx r7700

Why don't you, to the best of your ability, list all the spec of your pc, and the pc that made the new card work.
Then we/you can compare. What is different between the two. It seemed like you ruled out everything out already. So whatever is different between the two computers, is your problem.

Well, im not sure of the exact specs of the computer that made the card work, because its not mine, but I can tell you what I do know. It has a newer msi motherboard, with an amd processor ( I checked because I have amd and I thought that if it had intel maybe the card only worked with intel for some reason). It also has 8gbs of ram. In my computer I have an older motherboard that im not even sure of the brand, and an amd fx 6100 six core 3.3ghz processor along with 10gb of ram. Both pcs are running windows 7. I dont think any other information would really be helpful because ive already ruled most things out.

To know your mobo brand and model, use your old gpu and download something called cpuz.
does your pc have a mobo speaker/beeper near where you plug in the reset/power/lcd switches?
If so, do you hear any beep? describe
Use your old gpu and run memtest64 overnight. 10gb ram is not standard. Usually the standard is multiples of 4.

I already tried a different set of 8gbs of ram and that didnt make a difference. Do you think it could be my cpu or mobo because theyre old/maybe out of date?
