First build, deciding between Windows 8.1 and 7

Hi guys, just wondering which OS to go for with my new build. I'm not very familiar with Windows 8.1 and I've heard a lot of back and forth over which one to get. I was hoping you guys could help settle this issue. I'm building a gaming rig so I'm not sure if that makes a noticeable difference or not. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I have 8.1. It works great. Its almost like 7 except a different layout. It has been improved and is a lot better than Windows 8. Windows 8 and 8.1 or two separate beasts. Windows 8.1 is good. Do not let anyone fool you.
