I bought a new graphics card and a power supply, XFX radion 280x, but the computer turns on, but then nothing. I replaced the old graphics card and it works fine. I uninstalled the old drivers, but still no go.Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What was the previous GPU?

Did the previous GPU require Aux 6/8 pin hookup?

xfx 280x does have Aux Power hookups, are those plugged in?

What brand/model PSU?

Does the new PSU have 6pin hookups?

We need more information. Please answer the above questions.

My motherboard has only 1 PCI slot, previous GPU was in same slot. I can get a display on the monitor through the motherboard, but when hooked up through the graphics card, the monitor goes into power saving mode.

I'm out of ideas to be honest. At this point, I personally would reformat, perhaps someone else can throw some ideas at you. Sorry I could'nt help. If you do manage to fix the issue, i;d love to know what did it.
Goodluck.

Did you ever find out what the issue was? I am experiencing the exact same issue, and I have tried everything that you had tried. I even Q-Flashed and updated my BIOS with no luck.

i3 6100
r7 370 (current gpu that works)
ga h110m-a micro mobo
corsair 650w
16gb (2x8gb) corsair
120gb sandisk sdd
500gb wd hdd

asus strix gtx 970 is the gpu thats NOT working. r7 is 6pin and 970 is 8pin, both are asus strix and i am using the same 6pin connector for the 970 but with the extra 2 pins (that were previously hanging off the side of the r7).
