Hi community, thanks for reading.

In my Desktop, I'll be replacing my current 120GB SSD 'E:' drive (which contains unimportant data) on my PC with a new 512GB SSD (will be designated as 'E:' drive). I'd like to properly remove the 120GB on both the physical and OS side so there aren't any issues installing the new 512. What's my process for this? Is it simply a 'unplug old, plugin new, play' kind of thing? Thank you for any and all input and I hope your day is going well!

SSDs:
Old 120GB to be removed. New 512GB to be installed.

Some Relevent Specs:
OS: Win 7 64bit (6.1) Ultimate Edition SP 1 Build 7601, DirectX 11.0
Board: MSI NF980-G65 (has SATA interfaces)
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
RAM: 2x4GB DDR3

If any other specs are needed, please let me know. I'll be glad to provide the info!

Ahhhh, I knew I forgot something. It is a Desktop. Original post has been updated.

So, to clarify: I do not need to uninstall *anything* within Windows, software-wise, etc. I simply unplug old, plug in new, correct?

Assuming there is nothing on the old drive you want, correct.

However...why not just leave it in there, and plug the new 512GB in as another drive.

As this is the E: drive I'm guessing that the OS is on a different disk entirely?

You can certainly unplug the old drive, plug in the new, boot Windows and it should find the new drive perfectly well and format it if necessary. I'm not 100% sure that it'll award the replacement drive the E: designation, but if it doesn't you can change it: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/change-add-remove-drive-letter#1TC=windows-7

Or you could just install the new drive, keep the old one, and change the drive letters as above so that the new one is E: and the old one F: or whatever, unless you've a particular reason for removing it (selling it etc.)

Great responses, thanks all! This is exactly what I needed.

The OS is on C:, so no worries there. Currently, there is nothing vital on E:.

I'll be uninstalling the old E: drive to sell.

On that note, if anyone would have a good process to securely remove all my data, I'd appreciate that too. No big deal, though.
