Hi everyone!

So black friday came and I got alot of goodies. Finally grabbed an SSD (samsung 850 pro), upgraded my amd cpu to an intel i5, had to change the mobo from amd socket to an intel z97 mobo, and finally I am replacing my r7 265 video card with a gtx 770.

My main question is regarding the transition for my new parts, but for the OS aspect. What I've read online says that I will need to do a clean install for windows to boot. So would it be easier to do the clean install and install windows 7 on my SSD? I've never done anything SSD related so im just asking to make sure I dont mess anything up!

Also, my windows 7 I have now is OEM, so from what ive read, ill have to get a new product key as well? Can someone clarify this all for me!

Cheers!

Yes, a clean install would be best. If you cloned the HDD to the SSD (not advised) you would have problems since this is a new motherboard. The old motherboard drivers will not work with the new motherboard. Since you have a new motherboard you will need to either purchase another OEM copy of Windows 7 or better yet a retail version if you think you will upgrade the motherboard in the future. Windows OEM is tied to the motherboard. If you plan on using the existing HDD in the new computer make sure it is disconnected before you install Windows. Reconnect the drive after Windows has been installed on the SSD.

So i should just do a clean install, and then call MS and hope they give me a new code?
