I have a Dell Laptop and it updated to Windows 8.1. Now there are wifi issues. It says that Im connected to my home network and that I do have internet access however, when I try using the internet, there isn't any wifi. It says there is limited connection and after troubleshooting it, it says windows cant automatically detect the network's proxy settings. Unfortunately, this laptop is new and there arent any system restore points.
Please help!

Name of the Network Card, (can be seen in device manager) press windows key + r then type this; mmc devmgmt.msc . Don't worry this is a common issue when updating to 8.1

Try to find and install latest drivers. (most likely the driver is the issue here)

If we can't find a working one we might try and improvise by using some other driver by browsing > device manager > adapter > update drivers > (uncheck incompatible drivers,browse on computer > and select one available. Incompatible drivers actually do work! if a valid one is chosen. Kind of strange but some drivers listed as incompatible work in some cases better then the most recent one provided by your vendor ;)

First check and see if troubleshooting tools will fix your problem, location below;

Navigate control panel and locate troubleshooting > network and internet.

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\Network and Internet.

Select Network adapter, Internet Connection.

Something seems wrong with your internet configuration, do you have a proxy? which browser do you use? Try alternative browser.

Open command prompt > ping google.com . (you're not allowed to post IP settings on forum.) see if it replies . You could post output in private though that is allowed .

How do I know if I have a proxy or not? I think I do because in the proxy settings I have the "automatically detect settings" on. Yet I still get the message that Windows cannot automatically detect the network's proxy settings
