My dad having trouble connecting to the internet that has a router 2 floors below his office. How can I solve this problem? Thanks in advance for your help :)

Solution
Depends what kind of work you can do.
The best would be to extend the ethernet (from the existing router) or even the ADSL/CABLE (source of internet) up through the floor, and into another router of the second floor and have a seperate network for that floor. However, this would involve a lot of work, and if extending the ADSL/CABLE, an electrician. The cheaper option would be to place a wifi repeated/extender directly a floor above the 1st floor router, and then have more on each ends of the building. However, wifi extenders cut the speed a bit, but not too too bad (better than nothing :).

If the connection is weak, a wifi booster will help.
What is the speed decrease between the two floors? Maybe if the floor your dad is on has ethernet, setup another network under the same name, and it should join together (I have this in my house)

perhaps I will pop by his office to completely be sure of the situation, but as it stands, i think there is no physical connection between the floors (I dont think they have a ethernet cable. What they have tried is having another router on the 2rd floor (this is my dad's floor) but that has the same problem as the PC adapters- the signal is just too weak. Im not sure of the drop in speed, I just know it is so bad that he loses internet connection completely at times, and downloading something 1MB in size will be almost impossible for him.

What i was looking for was if there is a solution that allows the router signal strength to be moved to the second floor, so that it is as strong on my dad's floor as it is on the ground floor, at the source of the internet.

What about placing a wifi extender on the 1st floor, and then another on the 2nd, so that the signal is still good.
What type of router is it on the ground floor? If it old, you might need to upgrade to get a stronger, faster and better signal out of it.

thanks so much for the fast response, i am very grateful. I just talked to my dad, he says he is on the 2nd floor, but the source router is on the first floor, so it is only a floor difference. I will go in and check what type of router it is, since it sounds like its a bad one if the signal strength is so weak, as you said. He tells me that some people directly above the router on his floor get connection, but the workers on the far side of the office do not, so it seems it is a very weak signal. Im not particularly tech savvy, so forgive me for asking, but you seem to have several options to boost signal strength. In this situation, what would you recommend? Also, it would be better if it could be something separate as opposed to replacing the router, because my dad may not be allowed to replace the one on the other floor. Thanks again, Iced Canadian. :)

Also, there are these things :)P) called power Ethernet adapters. What they do, is they transmit an internet signal through the power in the building, recieved by the adapter on the other end. All you would have to do is run an ethernet cord from the existing router to one of these things (plugged into a socket) and run another ethernet cord from the other one plugged into the wall on the other floor. From there, your Dad could plug the ethernet into a modem (at his desk), provide wifi to the rest of the workers around him, and he could still have another cable running from the modem directly into his computer, giving him great speeds. Usually, these are a very good options, however, the more power consuming items plugged in, the more "noise", and thus a slower connection. I still think this is your best option (in terms of value and speed)

The best options would be the get an ADSL/CABLE connection directly to the 2nd floor, but if that is not possible (as it is a big and expensive job), I would get the power line Ethernet adapters.
