Hello,
I've been using my Gefore GTX 980 SC from EVGA for about 2 and a half months now with my new system. (You can find it below)

The problem is that i keep getting the dreaded "nvlddmkm stopped responding ..." driver crashes. I already RMA'd my previous card but I just got another driver crash yesterday after around 1 week of usage with the replacement card while playing DayZ.

The crashs seem to happen randomly, but mostly while playing (just got one while I was on the desktop without running any 3D application)
I got around 2-3 crashs in Assassin's Creed Unity after playing for a while BUT I did run Unigine Valley for 4 hours without having a crash at all.

I probably saw this error 6 or 7 times since I installed the card. (In DayZ, AC Unity, L.A. Noire and one on the desktop)

Maybe I'm just paranoid and it is usual to see this error from time to time but I think this error shouldn't occur that much so I really hope someone can help me...

The rest of the system: (everything is @stock)
CPU: i7 5820k
Mainboard: Gigabyte X99-UD4
RAM: Crucial 4x4GB DDR4 2133MHz
PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 750W
GPU: EVGA GTX 980 SC
OS: Win 7 64 Bit (I previously had Windows 8.1 installed, but I had the same error too while using Win 8.1)
Sound: Xonar DGX
SSD & HDD: Crucial MX100 256GB & WD 1 TB Blue

Solution
I know its a bit late for that answer but check the boost clocks of the card while playing and the voltage levels.

For me my evga gtx 980 sc acx runs at 29°c idle and on full throttle its not going to temperature above 38 while gaming.
But i did have the same issue with the display driver crrashing, especially in one game.
My card runs at 1417mhz core boost clock which was powered by 1.206v.
I tried to reinstall the driver multiple times, reinstalled the os. tried all that BS (bull.s) fix stuff and nothing worked. Except one.

As i saw my card running at that speed i just throttled it down via EVGA's PrecisionX 16 tool by just 51mhz. Now it reaches the 1366mhz boost clock with 1.206v and guess what... no more driver crashes in that...

Have you tried doing a clean install with DisplayDriverUninstaller? You should do this in safe mode if you haven't, it removes left over nvidia registry entries and all the installed files.

Start your PC in safe mode. Use DDU from guru3D to remove all driver files from your PC. Restart your PC. Download the latest driver if not beta from the www.geforce.com and install these drivers. Hopefully, this would see your problem gone. Try to run the card at stock speed. Also, did you happen to check the temps on the card during the game?

Tera online is the game in that case which kept crashing. Probably not good programmed but Tera is probably the best game for testing Overclocks and see if the card runs stable or not, because if not, either the driver keeps crashing or it hard locks the system. Which happens too sometimes till i fixed the boost clock.
