How often do nvidia/amd release their new generation of GPU's?

So the gtx 9xx series just came out, so when will the 1xxx series or 1k series be released? (if thats what they are calling it), is it every year or two years?

depends on situation? but in general they come out with new series each year. but it doesn't mean they will move into new architecture every time they come up with new series. for nvidia i think they still come come up with new series each year. AMD they stop doing so after 7k series. the R series come out almost two years after 7k series and among the card only R9 290s really new card. below that it is just the same 7k series with new name. and it seems they intend to completely skip 2014.
