how do I know what the proxy setting should be? If I uncheck the "use a proxy server for your lan", I can get on the internet. It rechecks itself, and I just get a "blank page". Even without restarting, it will recheck itself. This is a home notebook.
Confused

This is indeed a common side-affect of malware. Vembutech's steps were perfect. I would also do a number of virus scans and try to remove any toolbars, after you change this setting.

But I dont think the guy wants one. He's trying to remove whats there, not add something to / in it. I fixed one a few weeks ago.

Man it was stubborn. The only way I could remove it, was to remove its service, then add myself to its folder, (so i could change the owner to me). Then delete its folder. So I could kill its task

Since it didnt have anything in startup, You couldnt end its process either

I don't know what the address of the proxy server or port box is, so I can't type it in. If I go thru my favorites, I can get where I want to go. But initially when I open internet explorer, I just get the "blank page"

I have no solutions, I have an additional question:

Dear Shoulder9 and Vembutech:

The person asking you these questions wanted your help. Very specifically

You said: "In the Address box, type the address of the proxy server.
In the Port box, type the port number.
If your network requires separate proxy addresses for different services, such as HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP, click the Advanced button, and then type the individual proxy server addresses to use."

I say: The person asking wanted you to provide COMMON SETTINGS
to enter in the address boxes and in the port BOX.

How much do you charge to provide the answer for such common settings?

I will now try to define the concept of "Common settings" for IT people who cannot fathom that any user has less knowledge than them: "Settings that are standard, almost default settings, that usually work to provide the user with an internet connection that actually works." These might be different for different OS's, etc.

NOW DO YOU GET IT?!?!

What are these secret settings? Spit them out!! Or if you are incapable to communicate with other humans, don't even try.

Just quit these idiotic useless non-answers.

Here is a typical IT person answering the question: Is the sky blue?
IT person: The sky is usually not purple with green dots, and it depends on the operating system god has installed, and are you sure you can't
see it for yourself by looking out the window?

NOW do you get it?
