For my PC that i will be getting I need a medium range cpu for £125 maximum. The two that I have chosen are the Intel i5-4460 or the AMD FX 8350. Even though the FX has 8 cores as opposed to 4 and it runs at 4.0Ghz rather than the i5's lower clock speed of 3.2Ghz, I have heard that the i5 is better for gaming and through benchmarks I have seen that this is true. Is the i5 also better than the FX for tasks like general desktop use, work, web browsing, streaming online videos and other normal tasks? (I do not render videos)

Thanks!

Solution
FX 8350: Better in multitasking, streaming and productivity.

i5 4460: Better in gaming(most games) and per core performance.

Both are good in: General use, work, web browsing.

Get the i5 is gaming is your main thing.

Go For The i5 As it Is For Gaming. One of my closest friends plays BF4 frequently. He has a two machines, One that runs a quad core Intel Core and another that runs a Amd FX 8350 Processor. He has frequently told me in the past that his FX 8350 struggles with that game while his Core i5 doesn't. BF4 seems to utilize less then 4 cores typically, which means an FX 8350 will not have any advantage over something like a Core i5 4460 which will beat it core for core.
