HDMI output to TV is terrible, VGA only allows really low res

Hi all,

I've just bought a TV to double up as a second monitor, but I have run into a couple of annoyances. If I output it to HDMI I get a really blurred and jagged picture. Changing the aspect ratio to "Just Scan" makes it mildly better but not perfect. It's a 22" Veltech TV with a highest resolution of 1920x1080. It is a full 1080p TV.

On VGA, the highest it will go is 1360x768, which shows brilliantly, but big, the two higher resolutions (1600x900 and 1920x1080) leave the TV showing "Not supported".

I'm using a Mac Mini (mid 2014 with Intel HD 4000 graphics), and I would really like to output full HD from it, but I'm just getting nowhere.

Any ideas what to do?

Thanks
Omar

Yup. These are the settings:

At 61Hz it seems to be a tiny bit better, but not the best, as diagonal lines appear jagged.

Off my laptop, Windows 7 also with Intel HD4000 graphics, the max resolution is 1920x1080 (1080p at 60Hz), but it also looks the same - bit fuzzy and washed out.

AAAhh!!! I didn't mean to confirm that as the solution!!
I'll try it.
On VGA it seems clear but does not have a high resolution

It works like a dream on the PS4 using HDMI (running full 1080p @24Hz).

These are the pictures off my Mac

Not very clear, but banding between colours

None of them did. I cut my losses and took the TV back.
I got it from Cash Converters so had to sell it back to them, made a £20 loss, but bought a new Samsung VGA LED monitor which works perfectly on my Mac and laptop.

I think the HD TV works well with consoles and set top boxes, but not computers as a 2nd screen.

Thanks anyway guys.

Just so I know, why do a lot of HD TVs not work well as a 2nd monitor?

Thanks
Omar :)
