My PS3 60GB has the YLOD. I took it for repairing and i was told the graphics card should be replaced. If that happens will my PS3 still be able to play PS2 games? i have the PAL (UK) version which is backwards compatible through emulation software not hardware, so i am not sure what will the case be.

Your being taken for a ride. There is no graphics "card" to replace on the PS3. The graphics processor is soldered directly to the mb. The YLOD usually signifies that the lead free solder has come loose somewhere on the board. Look up how to bake your PS3 or using a heat gun. You can fix YLOD yourself at home.

It sounds risky but it works. My step father did this with an old ps3 someone gave him. Heated the mother board with a hair dryer for a long time until the solder reconnected. The ps3 is working to this day and that was a year or more ago.
