I currently have an Intel 2300 quad core cpu, i feel it's a bottleneck for my GTX 760, its not exactly the best performance.
So i was thinking of upgrading to an AMD processor due to the cost difference, i also wanted to know what motherboiard i should get as i currently only haave an intel 1155.

My budget is around £200, i know its difficult to work around but its fine if it goes over, just try and keeps as cheap as possible thanks :)

Solution

Solution
There's basically no AMD processor that is an upgrade over the Core i5-2300 for gaming. If you were doing heavy multithreaded work, then an 8-core FX CPU would offer a decent-ish upgrade for an attractive price, but the singlethreaded performance just isn't there compared to Intel.

I would just try and find a used i7-2600K. It's still going to be faster than all but the most expensive AMD CPUs. FX-9370 or FX-9590 would need high end motherboards and advanced cooling, so you are looking at ~$200 for the CPU + ~$150 for the motherboard and + ~$100 for cooling.

Or just get an H97 motherboard and an i5-4560 and save all the hassle.

Even an FX-9590 can't really compete with a Core i7 for gaming. Sometimes even a Core i3 does better...

op asked about amd so i gave him amd. beauty of custom build is that it only has to please the owner and not everyone else. all of what you said is true but if he wants amd and is happy with amd, then help him get an amd set-up.

could possibly do an i5-4460 and mob for similar price which is not bad either but not what he asked about.
