Clean installing Windows on SSD, do I need to wipe HDD?

I just bought a new processor and motherboard on a cyber Monday special yesterday, so I'm going to need to reinstall windows on my SSD for this motherboard. While doing so, I'm just going to do a clean install to make sure any old drivers and unnecessary files get removed, as I store almost everything besides Windows, firefox, and a few games on my HDD.

If I unplug my HDD before I do a clean install of Windows on my HDD, am I going to need to format my HDD when I plug it back in afterwards? I don't have anything important to keep, so formatting isn't a problem, but it is more work so basically I'm wondering if all of my programs/files will be fine on my HDD after I reinstall my OS on my SSD.

Thanks

Yes.

Your applications that currently exist on the HDD can't be used with the new OS install on the SSD.
They will need to be reinstalled.
