Hello!

I am having a issue with trying to pick new graphics card(s). I do not understand any of the technical stuff, or any of the advanced settings or information. I get as far as being able to turn on a game, have it auto set settings and then play. I have been told by a few of my friends that I need to update my graphics to the newer graphics cards however I am very uncertain as to what I want or need for that matter.

CPU: I7-4820K Quad 3.70 GHZ 10MB Intel Smart Cache LGA2011
Motherboard: GIGABYTE x79-UP4 ATX w/ Ultra Durable 5, GblAN, 4 GEn3 PCIe x16
Ram / System Memory: 16GB (4GBx4) DDR3/1866MHz Quad Channel Memory (Cosair Vengeance)
Video Card: Nvidia Geforce EVGA GTX 780TI 3GB GDDR5 384-Bit Dual-Link DVI-I DVI-D HDMI DP SLI Graphics Card
Power Supply: 850 Watts - Corsair RM850 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Fully Modular Ultra Quiet Power Supply

Monitors: NVIDIA 3D Vision 2 Ready Monitor: ASUS 27" LCD - VG278 & 27" ViewSonic LED 3D Monitor

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium

That is my information as of right now, and I think that is the important stuff that is needed to get help for this problem.

I had a similar issue when I first posted about my computer when I first got it back in July I had gotten a 760 4GB with it, but soon upgraded to the 780TI thanks to information from some very helpful people here. Now here again trying to get the best out of my computer and gaming that I possibly can.

I play a few games as of right now: World of Warcraft, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, The Evil Within, and a few others but those are my most demanding as far as I keep seeing online. I think from what I understand World of Warcraft is not super demanding, but it can be heavy on performance during larger raid encounters I have read. I also want to get into newer games that are going to be coming out such as Dying Light and Evolve, for something to keep in mind when trying to pick new card(s).

There is a lot of hype and posts about these 970 and 980, but when I read up on them it is usually a bunch of stuff I have no clue what it is all about. I have kind of gotten the idea behind this FPS thing because everyone talks about it all the time. I seam to keep steady on my games but notice my games will go slow or "shudder" sometimes during times when lots of things are going on at once. I would like to go into this SLI as I understand it you get the performance from both cards to run one game or something like that? Naturally I would think that would be better as far as I understand it.

I would appreciate any help in trying to pick graphics card(s) best for my gaming experience. If at possible SLI if it is better, but if it is not then anything that would work better then my 780TI. One post that I did run across somewhere a day or two ago was that one should go for a higher single card then SLI so that also has made me question if it would be good for me or not. Not to mention if it would be hard to maintain or set games up for it would be a factor as well.

PS: If there is a place that someone could link/share where I could read up to understand the different information about the graphics settings that would be a great help as well! To clear that up information such as like what different settings are in the games: Example being FXAA, MSAA, TXAA. Or things like PhysX, SSAO and all of those other things they put on there, that I never have any clue what should go where to get the best performance from my games.

Thanks in advanced for any help, and advice anyone may have.

Well like Anencephalus said, if you want to SLI you should be able to max your performance. But the issues you described may just be the limitation of the games themselves, the environment their operating on (ex. there's a lot of programs running in the background) or your internet connection. It would be a shame to dump more money in GPU power only to find performance didn't improve much.

Your friends are either idiots or uninformed. They are wrong in every way. The 780TI is a top end GPU and will run any game.

If you want max frame rate on ultra on all the upcoming games then you can SLI but even then you really don't need to.

You're fine with your current setup. I'd do some googling and find out more about your hardware. Doesn't do any harm but does a lot of good.
I'd recommend Google to your friends as well. Unless of course that's Google isn't as good as bing for them....

Sometimes I will notice that my games run with a shudder to them, or when I play a game in 3D it goes slower in the since of there is a notice drag moving left to right on the screen in a couple of higher graphics areas. Or that my FPS would drop in the 30s in a few games when there is a lot going on. I see that 60 is the "norm" and would like to stay at or above that even during the high graphics areas.

Could you give some examples of games which stutter or slow? I would suspect your OS or Hard Drive as a possible culprit. I would recommend a fresh format of your hard drive and if you have a mechanical hard drive try putting your money into an Solid State Drive to hold your OS and games.

On Battlefield 4 I notice on a large open map that is a construction zone type setting or so it seams my FPS will go down and it is a slow response on going from like say one end of the map to the other. Such like I would turn one way and notice that it would be a slower then average move like a pull of some sort on it. Not sure what the technical term or gaming term would be, but that is as best as I can describe it. Or during large battles on say the 64 player maps I will get lower FPS then I would like to have or that I have gotten used to playing with.

As far as Solid State Drives go I have 2 Samsung 840 EVO 1TB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internals that I had installed recently to hold more stuff because I was running out of room with my old 256 one.
