I just upgraded from an i5 4670k to a i7 4790k and tried to boot up the computer, but despite the fans turning on, the GPU lighting up with its fans on, the CPU fan going, nothing is put on my screens and nothing in the USB ports is lighting up or working.

I have no idea what I’ve done wrong here, but I could really use some help.

Here’s the steps that I took to put in the new CPU when I got home:
find package on doorstep, unpackage and put on anti-static wristband
unscrew 212 evo and pop it off, cleaning the bottom of it to prepare for new cpu
remove old cpu
insert new cpu
apply thermal paste
sit 212 eve on top and screw back in
tilt computer right side up and turn on
and here we are

I have:
z87 pro mobo
3 monitors
gtx 970 2gb
intel i7 4790k
16gb of ram

Do you have an ASUS Z87 Pro? If you do then, you can update your BIOS using USB BIOS Flashback:
http://www.asus.com/microsite/2014/MB/New_4th_gen_Intel_processor_compatibility/#models

This is your product:http://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/Z87PRO/HelpDesk_Download/
Choose DOS in your dropdown box. Download the latest version.

I would suggest reading the manual that came with your motherboard about USB BIOS flashback.
But essentially you download the BIOS. Extract the CAP file. Rename it to "Z87P.CAP". Put it on a USB. Plug it in to the USB near the ROG Connect or USB BIOS Flashback button.
Now press and hold USB BIOS Flashback button/ROG Connect button/onboard BIOS FLBK/Reset button for three seconds until the LED begins to blink...
Might've defaulted to your integrated graphics. Try plugging your monitor into the motherboard video port.

Also, look up your motherboard on the manufacturer's webpage and see if the 4790K is on the supported CPUs list. Probably is, but you'll very likely need to flash your BIOS.

I just did some research and apparently the 4790k is only compatible if I update the bios and flash it?

Quite frankly I don’t know what flashing the BIOS is or how to go about doing it, so if I could get a bit of a walkthrough here I’d very much appreciate it.
