Motherboard not working after new PSU

Hi guys, I would appreciate some help.

I bought a new PSU as my old one isn't powerful enough for my new graphics card. After a long time plugging everything in, the PC will only turn on for a brief second before shutting down again.

Unplugging the components one by one proves the motherboard is what's causing it to not boot up. I'm sure I've checked every cable multiple times, I don't really know what else I can do. Could it be not enough power?

There's a computer parts store down the road that can do a diagnostic on it but it a $49 I'd rather not spend (again).

Please, any other suggestions would be welcome.

It's an Alienware Aurora R4, MSI motherboard (I believe), corsair AX 760i PSU. Don't know if any other details are needed. I can add that the old one is actually 875 watt stock PSU, apparently the corsair will give more power.

Solution
Just brought the power supply back after telling them I was misinformed about this one being more powerful than my stock power supply. Full refund was given.

For anyone with an alienware note that the AlienFX (lighting, vents) will not work if you use a typical power supply unit and must be disconnected. You need to either get one directly from Dell or get an adaptor from Dell. The computer store manager suggested the motherboard did not work because the lighting was still connected but still gave me a full refund.

Thanks Masab007 for your replies.

Thanks masab007 for the quick reply.

No, I haven't.
Are you thinking the CPU could be at fault? Cause like I said the PC does not start only when the motherboard is connected to the PSU, the PC still starts when the cpu is plugged in.

well, i had similar problems after rebuilding my pc outside the case, it started for a brief second and shut off;

the problem was one of the pins in the cpu got bent, but urs is an intel cpu so no pins there; are u sure u connected everything?

24pin connector, cpu connector, and gpu

Yep, GPU, CPU, all connected to power supply. When I connect the full 20+4 pin into the power supply that's when it won't start up which is why I'm blaming it on the motherboard.

I just edited my post adding that my old stock PSU was 875 watts, did the computer store rip me off by telling me the corsair is gonna give more power?
