Another possible problem is if your account isn't an adult account. Just so it's said I'm an adult and have had gold for 5 years as an adult and for some strange reason (which xbox support can't figure out) suddenly my account went from adult to minor when we bought and X1.

It should go without saying, but I suppose you paid for the Xbox Live GOLD service, didn't you? AFAIK, just as the Playstation Plus is required for Sony's consoles, you require the Live GOLD on Microsoft's.

Also, from what I've read the Xbox Live service was hacked and brought down yesterday. Not sure if it's still like that.
