I brought this HD7970 Lightning 3 days ago, my problem is if i try to run any! game with 1070 MHZ core clock the game freezes and i get that message "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered " but if i turn the core clock down to 1000mhz everything is fine :x Any ideas? i allrdy tried out various drivers for this and still nothing.

My System:
i5 4570S
8GB 1600mhz ram
MSI HD7970 Lightning
Thermaltake Hamburg 530W

Solution

Have you tried decreasing the Memory clock then increasing the GPU clock? The VRAM might be overheating an in-turn heating the GPU too much. A lot the time it is dodgy VRAM that causes more issues than the GPU.

Keep ur card at default clocks only as certain apps like flash player content, some games and many more things kill ur GPU driver when core/GPU clocks are over/under clocked but over/under clocking ur GPU memory clocks won't cause any trouble. So in short , just keep core clock default and change memory as u wish. I experienced same(exactly same) issue on my gtx 285 and have fixed it by just keeping core clock default with memory still over clocked by 395 MHz.

your Thermaltake Hamburg 530W psu has a single 12v rail at 38 amps.. thats pretty low for a system that is powered by 7970

average psu gives around 50 amps at 12v rail

try a good quality 80 plus bronze psu that can deliver atleast 50-60 amps on 12v rail
