Two days ago I left my laptop on overnight (with a game running, paused and on the background - I seldomly do this, but have done it before) and when I got back to it the next day and tried to continue using it the laptop for some reason did not respond to my mouse movement, but did respond to the keyboard. I ended up restarting my laptop and that's when I got the 0xc000000f error code.

The exact error page I get is a blue page saying:
Recovery

Your PC needs to be repaired

The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains error.

File:\Windows\system32\winload.efi
Error code: 0xc000000f

You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacture.

Press Enter to try again
Press F8 for Startup Settings
Press Esc for UEFI Firmware settings

Pressing enter or f8 doesn't help in any way. The f8 does produce a short flashing of the screen though.

What you would probably need to know about my laptop:
It's an Lenovo y510p, that's about a year old.
The specs it came with were:
i7 core (ithink it's an -4700MQ, but I am not sure and right now have no internal way of checking it)
8gb memory
1 TB HDD storage
2 GB Nvidea GT 755M
Windows 8

Things I've changed:
Added 128 GB SSD m.2 in an empty ssd slot, cloned Windows to this ssd to make it the bootdrive (this is more than 6 months ago, and has been working fine until now).
Upgraded to Windows 8.1

The game was running on the HDD and windows 8.1 on the SSD.

Notes:

Using a bootable usb I managed to use the cmd prompt. When one of the suggested solutions I found instructed me to use the command Diskpart and then list volumes I noticed the list that followed did not show any data on the SSD volumes (denying it's existence).

I later realised that the One Key Recovery system also seems to deny it's existence. While both the SSD and HDD have a restore partition, only the restore partition from the HDD shows up (but the data on it is old and the recovery system tells me the data is invalid) and the main partition itself - the one I actually use for storage.

Which all seems strange to me since the SSD does show up as a bootable disk when I use the novo button to go in to the boot options (when in legacy support).

A list of things I've tried/done so far:
- Put my laptop in Legacy Support mode.

- One Key Recovery / only offers me a complete reset to factory defaults as a viable option and only allowing me to reinstall to the HDD.

- Created a bootable usb for windows 8.1.

- Repair windows / only the command prompt option is working

(not the part about using the sfc commands / from the comments I get the sense it doesn't help)

- I've read and tried far more things but they all said in essence the same things as above mentioned articles.

A list of things I've read, but is above my level of understanding:

considerations:
Does all this mean the SSD is gone/fried/what ever (and needs replacement)?

If not, is there away to fix this without restoring back to factory settings (i'd lose a lot of important files)?

If yes, are my windows 8 files now gone?

There is no product key sticker on my laptop (some research on google tells me this is normal for newer laptops). Am I now forced to by myself a new copy of windows 8?

Hi patrick.

Typing notepad cmd prompt opened up notepad correctly. Once open i went to file: save as. There i could look through the locations. It confirmed that my G:\ storage (Hdd disk) has now become C:\ storage and the bootdrive was no where to be found.

In response to the chkdsk /r my computer returned: the type of that file system is NTFS. Cannot lock current drive. Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected.

Typing your bcdboot command returns an explaination of possible commands. I send the command exactly as you wrote it twice.

I am willing to try the testdisk software as you proposed, however i am unsure how i should go about this (i did read the instructions). Should i download the files to a usb and run it from there?

diskpart
select disk x (the write protected drive)
attributes disk clear readonly

Yes, you should make bootable usb with the testdisk iso . (do not use it right now)

I will look into the bcdboot command could you post output of diskpart (list disk) (list volume) .

'Select disk x' returns 'the disk you specified is not valid. There is no disk selected.' The command prompt is however running from x:\sources.

List disk returns three disks. Disk 0 to disk 2. Disk 0 being of size 931 GB en the two others 7633 MB. All are online. I think the last two disks must be the usb sticks that are both plugged in.

List volume returns: volume 0 through 9. Vol 0 being the dvd drive. Vol 1 is C, called storage (888 GB). Vol 2 is D called restore (25 GB). Vol 3 has no letter, is called WINRE_DRU (1000 MB). Vol 4 has no letter, is called SYSTEM_DRU (260 MB). Vol 5 has no letter or label (350 MB). Vol 6 has no letter, is called PBR_DRU (15 GB). Vol 7 is E called ESD_USB (7632 MB). Vol 8 is G but has no label (7632 MB). Vol 9 has no letter, but is called LRS_ESP (1000 MB). Volumes 3 through 6 & 9 are hidden. Vol 4, 7 & 9 are Fat32 the others arr ntfs.

Thanks for your help so far by the way!

Alright but it only shows the healthy disk (hdd), not the ssd i would like to be fixed and contains the bootfiles. So i am going to run the code on the healthy disk. Is that what you intended?

I am sorry i wasn't notified of your latest two responses.

Looking into your suggestion i found my lenovo laptop has no way of resetting cmos.

I will ask for rma as you suggested.

I do want to thank you for your assistance. It was much appreciated!
