Hello all,
I have to two questions for you on my first P.C. build that I need some help with.
I put everything together yesterday and to my amazement it actually booted up successfully. It was a great feeling. However, I have 2 issues.
#1
I am utilizing my liquid cooler from my alienware aurora pc (only part I reused from it). When I put it on the new motherboard I noticed something. The cooler has 2 plugs. One is the standard cpu fan plug which fits nicely into the motherboard. However, my cooler has a small second 7 socket plug (only 4 wires though, wires in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th slot). This was marked as the "CPU Pump" on my alienware motherboard. I read that this is a proprietary thing so you cannot use the coolers on other motherboards. However, I also read posts from people saying that you actually do not need to plug that one in. All that would happen is that you may receive a warning that the cooler isn't working properly. All of that being said, when I booted up my P.C. for the first time, for the first 2-3 seconds after pressing the power button, the fan acts normal, but then it revs up and I have never heard a fan get as loud as this. It must be running at like 5,000%. Does anyone have any advice on this? Or do I just have to kind of bite the bullet and get a different cooler?
Also, it may be worth pointing out I really was only on the P.C. for 10 minutes before I turned it off for the night. Not sure if it would have eventually calmed down or something.
#2 I have a corsair 500R case. There are a bunch of cables which are coming out of the front ports that they wrapped up nicely for me (the standard audio, usb, lights, etc.) however there was one cable that I did not know what it was. The plug on the end had 2 sides. One side was a female 4 pin plug, and the other side was a male 4 pin plug. It looked almost exactly the same as a molex cable, however when I tried to connect a molex cable from the power supply to it, I really had to force it to get in there. I kind of figured that meant it was the wrong one so I unhooked them. I then found that there was a 3rd power spot on my motherboard. There was a 24pin, an 8 pin (both of which I already connected to power), and then an empty 4 pin. I actually just ended up plugging the cable from the front into that. Is that correct? Or should that be going somewhere different?
FYI my motherboard is an MSI X79A-GD45 PLUS 2011 RT
Any advice (Especially on the first problem) would be greatly appreciated. I want to use my P.C. but I do not want my cooling unit to explode.
