I have an MSI A55M-P33 with an A4 CPU, OCZ 500SXS PSU, 2x2GB Patriot PSD34G1600KH memory, Toshiba 500GB HD.
I have the MB breadboarded on its packing foam anti-static pad.
I appear to be fine (at least BIOS recognizes everything properly) until I try to load Ubuntu from a USB key into memory, then it goes into a "coma."

Is there a checklist for someone at my stage of construction?

Thank you.

P.S.: The 9 step POST-ing sticky checklist got me to this point--well done, folks!

Update: Tried with one mem stick with and without hard drive. No joy.

When starting up the computer access the system BIOS. If unsure of how to access system BIOS look in the motherboard manual of how to do so. While in the system bios modify the boot order, so the USB is first, followed by the hard drive the OS is being installed onto. MAKE SURE TO SAVE THESE SETTINGS then exit the BIOS. Depending on the OS being used, it may ask to select the install operation as an upgrade or advanced. If the OS is being installed for the first time on a blank hard drive choose advanced. Select the hard drive for the OS to be installed onto. After the OS had been successfully installed, restart the computer and access the system BIOS. Modify the boot order so the hard drive with the OS installed on it is first SAVE THESE SETTINGS and exit the system BIOS.

USB is set as 1st boot, HD 2nd (blank drive/non-bootable), CD/DVD 3rd.

I just tried switching options on the USB's menu and system terminated. Is the issue between USB and Memory?

Keyboard is USB. Would that make a difference on a newer Motherboard?
