i have a r9 280x 3gb that cant seem to give out 100% usage.

i own a r9 280x msi 3gb. it seems in no matter what game i play it wont give me 100% usage of the gpu. i have a msi overlay and my amd fx8350 isnt even close to being used up completely. but i still only run at about 45%-50% in most games unless l look at a part of the maps that dont have alot going on. i play a large amount of dayz and it seems i can only hit 25-35 fps in the cities but 60+ anywhere else. and its not only in dayz that its like that but in many other games as well.

My Specs are:
CPU; fx8350 stock
GPU: MSI r9 280x 3gb
MB:ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970
PSU: 750w corsair

The CPU will not run at 100% in games. This is normal and correct.

DayZ is REALLY horrible optimized. This is why it is not using all your GPU power. Happens to everyone and is likely to never be fixed.

No. That game has changed hands 3 times and no one ever sticks with trying to fully develop it. It will likely never get out of beta and become a fully fledged game. The game company even said this themselves.

It will never be properly optimized. Look at the game it is based on. Arma 3. That IS a fully released game and it runs like crap no matter what your hardware is.

DayZ will suffer the same fate. Play it for what it is, a BETA, not a fully released game. That is, unfortunately, all it will ever be.

well i guess my question is when i play BF4 it doesn't use 100% of my GPU either and sometimes ill sit at 40 fps. am i really just that far off on expectations?

That is an issue then. When you are playing BF4 what is your CPU usage?

What are your CPU and GPU temps?

across all 8 cores only 4 are consistently above 80 percent. and my gpu gets to a max of about 60c and cpu at about the same

It sounds like you are getting near the performance you should be getting in BF4.

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2014/05/19/amd-radeon-r9-280-review-feat-xfx/4 the 280x should average 55ps in BF4 at Ultra. Plus their test system uses a WAY better CPU than the 8350.

You would need a new motherboard at the very least.
