Win7 x64 Pro randomly freezing with no BSOD and no trend

I've been having this problem for a while now. Every once in a while without warning or any sort of identifiable pattern my computer will freeze without any sort of error or BSOD, and no it's not overheating. Windows simply locks up and all running activities seem to halt. The mouse freezes, the keyboard freezes (not even the numlock light will turn on/off), any media that's playing halts and all sound output stops, but the computer keeps running indefinitely. I left it on overnight once and it remained as it was, I'm sure it would run for days on end if I let it. It does not respond to any input except the hard reset switch. Not even the power button does anything, I have to hit the reset switch.

It happens truly randomly. It has happened 10 minutes after start up, and also 10 days after. It happens while watching a movie/listening to music/playing a game/even browsing facebook. One odd case it woke in the middle of the night to run a virus scan and it was frozen halfway between "on" and sleep mode, when I woke up the next morning. In this case the monitor could not detect any input, but the computer was lit up and the fans were spinning. This has also happened going the other direction, it froze after I'd sent it into sleep mode. Monitor off, but fans and lights running.

I've checked the event viewer and the only events that ever get logged are the hard resets I have to do. I've ran memtest86 and it found nothing. I got my Win7 Pro through my university's MSDN.

Here's my setup:
MB: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
CPU: AMD FX-8320 Vishera 8-Core 3.5GHz (4.0GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Desktop Processor FD8320FRHKBOX
GPU: SAPPHIRE 100354OC-2L Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model BLS8G3D1609ES2LX0
HDD: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST1000DX001 1TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD
SSD (C Drive): SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250KW 2.5" TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) With Desktop Bundle Kit

And for what it's worth:
Case: Cooler Master Force 500 - Mid Tower Computer Case with USB 3.0 and Included 500W Power Supply
CD: LG Black 14X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 12X BD-ROM 4MB Cache SATA BDXL Blu-ray Burner, Bare Drive, 3D Play
WiFi: Rosewill RNX-N600PCE, Dual Band Wireless N600 Wi-Fi Adapter, IEEE 802.11b/11g/11n, Up to 300Mbps(5.0GHz) + 300Mbps(2.4GHz)
CPU cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Of note: The SSD is new. I originally had built the rig with just the HDD, but decided to upgrade a few months ago. I can't recall if the problem began before or after the SSD was added. If I had some spare RAM to test with I would, but I don't. I also haven't trashed the old windows partition on the HDD, would it be worth booting into that and seeing how it goes? I'm just leery of running into windows licensing rigmarole.

edit: I also don't do any overclocking, never seen the need.

draconis123: I'll have to try it. of course I'm a student and studying for finals so It likely won't be today. I'm also definitely beyond the RMA period on the SSD. Don't know what samsung's warranty process is like.

uplink-svk: I said there was no BSOD, the system just instantly stops responding in every way and remains that way until I cut the power. I did run memtest86, no faults found.

No sadly, I don't have any more powerful PSU's on hand. The only other one I could try is 450W I think. Could a lack of power really cause this?

-sorry for the late reply, I'm studying for finals at the moment.
