Evening all, long time reader, first time poster.

My issue is that I'm about to buy a new processor and mono to upgrade my current Phenom XII 550. My rig also contains:

  • 8 gig Vengeance RAM
    120 gig SSD
    500Gb HDD
    Radeon 7950 boost
    550 watt PSI
now my question is, been looking at getting an FX8320 or 8350 (with a 212 evo), along with GA-990FXA-UD3 mobo, will I also need to chuck in a new Psu to the fray? I'm looking at creating a solid next gen system, am not fussy on stupid levels of frame rate just want something nice and smooth to game on. With a budget of around 300 quid. Any help would be awesome.
Thanks all, this site truly is a bastion of awesome.
Mikey.

Hey man, thank you for your quick response. Just done a check(it was a good year or so ago when I bought this psu) it's actually an Arctic 700, I'm assuming 700 watt PSU, I recall it being near a hundred pounds at time of purchase, apologies for my incorrect info.

Yeah Arctic Power man, always thought it was a dodgy brand. Do you think I would get away with leaving it as it is and upgrading it in the future?
Could you suggest a build or an alternative to what I've mentioned for an under 300 bracket? Just want really good performance as was wondering whether or not to just buy a PS4. But can't turn my back on my PC heritage.
Thank you very much for your help, uplink. It really is appreciated.

These two will sing in Your computer a mighty anthem of power and victory. My only regret is that Your motherboard doesn't support 220Watt Vishera processors. That would be some real mayhem.

To the regards of the future, I'd go after Intel, to the regards to the fact, that You have pretty solid motherboard there for AMD, and to Your wallet, AMD solution is pretty damn good. I chose overpriced PSU, You can get what You need for up to 70 bucks, but it's futureproof and it will run for eons come.
