Hi guys, i recently bought a Pc with the following specs:

OS: windows 8.1
CPU: AMD FX 9590 8 core
PSU: Corsair 750W cs series
RAM: 1x 8gb kingston hyper xfury
GPU: Radeon r9 280x
Mobo: ASUS sabertooth 990fx
CPU fan: Corsair h55
SSD: 120gb kingston v300
HDD: 1tb sata- III

Ive had the build for about a month now, and since the very first day i got it it just freezes during games. The freezing just locks up the screen and everything instantly stops including sound, and i cant do anything other than hard resetting the pc by holding the power down. It freezes fairly quickly on more intensive games and takes a while on less intensive games, however, Ive ran GPU tests and CPU tests and the temperatures are far from dangerous/bad so its not that they're overheating. I also ran memtest for 10 hours and the memory is fine, no errors. All the drivers for everything are up to date so im just completely stumped. Any help would be really appreciated.

Solution
Not really unless you have a different system you can access. The procedure would involve taking your PSU out, putting in a different system then see if the problem still persists on that system. With this amount of knowledge, it could literally be anything. You just need to substitute components and suss out what component is causing the problem. Check your system, are the cables all securely plugged in? Check your device manager, is your computer detecting everything? Are drivers up to date?

hi thanks for replying. I havent done any overclocking.
It could be the PSU, it seems to me like it would be less likely that its the psu but just incase do you know any way i can troubleshoot it/test it out?

Hi there. Yeah ive been monitoring all the temps and the pc has froze when the cpu temp has ben at 60 degreees. The highest temp ive seen for the cpu is 70 degrees so far (full load) but it usually reverts back to mid 60's.

I'm having freezing issues as well. Started down clocking my card using the catalyst software and the freezing occurs less and less the lower it goes. It's been suggested that it could be my system is not getting enough power from the outlet and that's what's locking up the system, or possibly one of my PSU cables for my video is faulty (I have a thermaltake 1000W with modular cabling). Hoping to find out tonight.

Hell, you are in luck my friend, here is another solution which worked for someone else. Please tell me if this works for you. I am having the same problem with my system. I am gonna try these tonight. Its the Perfomance setting under Power Options in Control Panel in Windows 8.1

I think there's a link between these separate incidences.

They both have to do with power saving. Maybe AMD/Asus needs to bring out a patch for this Motherboard driver, r a windows update. I will be so damn excited to play on a working PC that cost about R20000 (RSA) / $1731.85 (USD).

I wanted to Hulksmash the damn thing, freezing 5 minutes into Starcraft II and all other games I play.

GIGABYTE nVidia GeForce GTX 970 - 4096MB GDDR5 Graphics Card

Asus M5A99FX Pro 2.0 Motherboard
