Old hard drive with new mobo

When i install my new motherboard will i be able to use my old hard drive with windows 7 without the install disk or will i need to buy another copy of windows 7. Thanks in advance!

2 potential issues: operation and license

1. Operation - will it boot? Maybe, maybe not.

2. Licensing - That depends on what the specific license is. OEM license it tied to the original motherboard.


In either case, a clean install on the new hardware is recommended.

+1 Windows will do a format. Just backup up anything important first. Go into advance disk option when ready to install and remove all partitions so you only have unallocated space to install onto. Also make sure it is the only drive connected when installing the OS. Good Luck!
