PC occasionally doesn't boot up

Hi all,

Built my first system a few weeks ago, and for the most part, runs completely fine. Recently, I've had some minor issues where the computer gets stuck partway while booting (stuck at the screen that says my mobo manufacturer name (Asus) and "Press delete to enter BIOS", or stuck at a flashing hyphen in the corner), and I'm wondering if there's any cause for concern.

Most of the time, this doesn't happen, and when it does, a single reboot always fixes the problem. Computer has zero problems once it's booted (no random shutdowns or anything like that); CPU temps appear to stay cool both during idle time and heavy load. This seems to have started around the time I got a new keyboard (Corsair K70 RGB). Can't imagine why that would have an impact, but in case that's useful...

Anyways, just wondering if people have any insight on whether I should be concerned about it. It's not really bothersome, but I figured I should check with someone more knowledgeable about this kind of stuff. If it sounds fine to people, that would be a relief to know. I'm a little protective about my first build, haha :)

Thanks!

I would be worried, but not overly so. It could be a bios issue, a keyboard issue - some bioses are set to halt booting if there is no keyboard attached, a drive issue, a memory issue, or a power issue.
Faulty memory could cause a failure to boot and should be checked. Run memtest86 or the windows memory test. If those say you are ok then don't worry about the memory.
I have had systems fail to boot because of a failed hard drive, but that is only likely in systems with multiple hard drives. The system could detect the drive sometimes but basically ended up waiting forever for a response.

I have had systems with failing power supplies fail to boot sometimes. They could not handle the initial stress of everything spinning up at once and would get stuck. Pressing CTR-ALT-DEL would usually resolve the problem because most things would at least be spinning some by then.

On the other hand, if any of these things were problems, you would most likely be experiencing serious problems at other times--system halts, blue screens, etc. If this is the only problem, I might look for a bios update, but I wouldn't worry too much.

I tried checking the memory as you suggested -- fortunately no problems. I do have multiple drives (1 SSD + 1 HDD), but haven't seen anything else so far to indicate a problem here.

Yes, no major issues like system halts or blue screens, so that's a good thing. I think for now, I'll just leave things as they are, as the problem doesn't sound too serious. It's probably simpler to just leave it as it is than try to update the bios, since it's at most a very minor inconvenience as long as everything else continues to function ok. If I start having more frequent/more serious problems, I'll look into this again.

Thanks for the help!
