Hi, I have a new build PC and I have ran into a problem. The problem I am having is that my PC randomly keeps freezing. I Have checked to see if every thing is seated properly and I have ran PC Doctor to diagnose the problem. The MB, CPU, GPU, Memory and HDDs are all passing the tests. I have the latest drivers installed on my PC.

I have noticed when the PC is frozen I can move the cursor but thats about it. Also when it is frozen the HDD light is on constantly (not blinking) and the the usual read/write sound cannot be heard. the lockup/freeze lasts 4-6mins and when the PC come unstuck the HDD light starts blinking and the read/write sound can once again be heard.

My PC setup:
Corsair 600W PSU (Coolermaster calculation showed minimum 460W required)
ASUS Z97-P motherboard 1150
Intel i5 4690K @3.5GHz
Corsair 6GB Ram
Gainward 3GB GTX780ti OC GPU
Samsung 1TB Black HDD 7200rpm (OS Installed)
WD 1TB Green 5400rpm (photo/media/backup)
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit OS

All the components are new apart from the 2 HDDs, they are around 4 Year old. If anyone has any Idea what could be causing the issue or would like to confirm the what I think it is - a failing HDD, please let me know.

Any Help would be appreciated and Thank You for reading this post.

The i7 and graphics card put a lot of strain to the power supply. Even if it has higher wattage than the one you calculated, I'd replace it immediately. Low-quality power supply, it is. This might or not be the cause of your computer 'freezing'.

I looked in to that when i was trying to figure out what is was. From what I have read if the PSU was at fault the pc would either not turn on or would crash altogether. what is happening it freezes and pick up from where it left off. MS resource Monitor, Core temp and GPU-z continue to run in the background.

To fix this I swapped out the Samsung 1TB Black HDD and replaced it with Seagate Barracuda 1TB. I also upgraded my PSU and OS. I went from the corsair 600W PSU to a Corsair 700W PSU with a 80 Plus gold rating. I went for windows 8.1 as my new OS.

With the swap out my PC is running smoothly again.
