Hey guys , so I know you are all tired of reading about this but the post is so old and the prices have changed.
So I have a gtx 760 which I love but it's a little bit old gpu with only gpu boost 1.0 and all of that . I was thinking in upgrading for gtx 970 but then I started looking at prices.
I can buy an r9 280x for 180 Euros and a gtx 770 for 240 Euros but the gtx 970 its a 370 Euros. Has you can see there is a huge price difference. I plan to play only at 1080p with a single monitor and I'm not a fanboy of any brand. What to you guys think is the best option here ? I'm thinking of going with the r9 280x
Thank you.

Based upon just the price I'd say go for the 280x. I'm assuming you'd try to sell your 760, and you could probably get at least half the cost of the 280x. Based upon the gtc 770 vs R9 280x they both crush everything at 1080, and with the 280x you get an extra gig of vRAM which might be helpful if you play games with a ton of textures (such as skyrim)

The 970 is closer to the R9 290X, so that's a whole different league. For €180 I'd take the R9 280X and run. The 770 is slightly more powerful (although some games do better with the R9 280X) but not €60 better.

The 280X isn't really much of an "upgrade" over a GTX 760 in terms of performance. Nothing you'll really notice. In the process you'll lose your PhysX, Adaptive VSync, DSR, HBAO+, FXAA, TXAA, and Nvidia driver support. You may end up losing more than you gain.
