Hi guys, I have a Toshiba Satellite L500-1Z9 and I wish to upgrade the CPU for testing and to see it will work......to use it yes. The laptop is slow even with a fresh install of windows, it had 2GB of RAM which I have upgraded to 3GB by adding 1GB ram stick but will maxing it to 4GB later on. I will be popping in my 250gb ssd also that I have as I want the best performance and don't mind spending whatever for it to reach its best....it's been laying around and I am bored lol so this is a project (kinda)

I've checked to see which ones are supported and it looks like it will be this list below

Core 2 Quad Q9000 - 2ghz
Core 2 Quad Q9100 - 2.26ghz

Core 2 Duo T9600 - 2.8ghz
Core 2 Duo T9800 - 2.93ghz
Core 2 Duo T9900 - 3.0ghz

I just want to browse the web and actually be able to watch 1080p as the CPU goes to 100% usage once I click on that option and want to use office without it being slow also. What is the best for TOP performance overall?

Even if those CPUs will fit in the socket, if the BIOS does not recognize the CPU, the laptop may not boot up or the CPU will only operate at minimum speeds. You need to research if Toshiba sold models of that laptop with a CPU that you want to upgrade to. If one exists then you should be able to use the CPU.

Jaguar is right, though it is somewhat uncommon for a mobo not to support a cpu that is not on it's list of support cpu's without a bios update. The Q9000 is more recent than the 9100 but the 9100 has twice as much L2 cache, twice as many transistors, and is slightly faster. The 9100 came out in 2008, if that helps? Typically you can visit the manufacturer's website to get them, just click here to go to a list of driver updates and make sure you're up to date.
