I have heard numerous times when I have said I'm building a pc with thunderbolt 2, that it is pointless because thunderbolt is only for storage. I thought thunderbolt supported many kinds of hardware including monitors. So my question is, what can thunderbolt actually do for a pc?

Solution
Theoretically, Thunderbolt 2 is amazing enough that it could handle external GPUs, ability to do multi monitor setups with just 1 port and etc. But in real life, no one is gonna really use it short of Apple fans.

Pretty much the only thunderbolt display is the Apple thunderbolt display at the price of 2 kidneys, and any other device is limited to external back up drives that usually also tack on USB 3.0 anyways.

Now, what you can do, is get Thunderbolt, hit the lights, and call yourself Thor the God of Lightning.
