I currently have a Dell Inspiron 3520 (2.5 GHz i3, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, definately not intended for gaming :p) and would like to know what I can save off of it. I mean, can I take out my hard drive and put that in my new PC I'm building? Or can I re-use the RAM or even the OS so I don't have to buy that again? I am not sure if this is possible and can't find anything helpful. If anyone knows, please help!

The PC I'm building will be around $520 for pretty basic gaming, just a solid 40+ FPS and maybe medium-high settings.

Solution
Laptop -> desktop:

Reuse RAM = No
Reuse hard drive = Yes. Physically it will work, but it will be slooooow
Resuse the OS, Windows license, and applications = No

Yup that or you could take the hard drive out of your laptop and put it into an external enclosure and you would retain your data that way.
