I have a 4-6 year old prebuilt PC that I'm currently using and slowly upgrading over time (put a new power supply in, and a new graphics card in recently.) I'm curious on how to upgrade the memory in the PC correctly. I'm trying to upgrade to DDR3-1866 RAM, preferably GSKILL.

This is my motherboard - Holly Motherboard

For the 1866 RAM what is says is: PC3-14400 (DDR3-1866) but every single ram piece I see for that speed is PC3-14900.

What does this mean exactly? Please help!

Solution
In theory DDR3 1866 RAM will have the 14900 ( should be about 1866X8=14928) that call "Peak transfer rate". Because your PC is the OEM HP, they can set it less sometime they set it more based on what they want to. As long as you buy the good-quality brand ddr3 1866 RAM ( like the G.SKILL 1866mhz cl9), and you will be fine. But make sure your cpu will support the speed RAM too, from the HP website http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c02966470#N276 like if you have the AMD A8-3800 and you are fine because the A8 cpu does support the RAM http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AMD-A-Series%20A8-3800.html but if you have the AMD A4-3400, then the 1866 mhz RAM will run at 1600mhz, because the A4 can only support the...
