Good afternoon,

A friend of mine is looking for a new gaming PC with a good quality/price.

I saw that AMD released some CPU and CGU whose really worth their price : The R9 290 (CGU) and the AMD FX-9590 (CPU).

What do you think of these products ? Do you think a build with them would be interesting ?

If yes, do you have some build in mind ?

Thanks,

Bigbru

The highest FX CPU worth spending money on is the FX-8320, provided you overclock. Otherwise the FX-8350 or FX-8370 are worth looking at. Anything higher (FX-9xxx) is a waste of money, since you'll have to spend a lot of effort to keep that thing cool.

If you really want an AMD build, FX-8320.
If you are able to switch to Intel, go for the i5 4690k. More expensive than the FX-8320, but similarly priced with the FX-9590, twice as fast at single core performance, and lower power consumption.

The graphics card you chose is perfect.

the 290 is a great gpu, nothing wrong about that one :)
but for the fx 9590, dont, it is not worth it, exept if you are building a pc meant for heating your room in a few minutes, that thing has a tdp of 225 W... get an i5 or i7, andifhe wants to overclock, get a k version of the i5 or i7.

Platform cost for an FX-9590 is actually greater then that of Intel. It truly is a enthusiast grade processor.

You need one of a very small subset of AMD boards rated at the outputting 225+W through the VRMs. You need a very powerful cooler, or the more expensive boxed CPU that comes with a water cooler. Increases power supply size, and adds the absolute need for quality.

Even after all of that, for gaming, the Intel chips work better.

if overclocking: i5 4690k (must be paired with a z97 mobo)
not overclocking: i5 4xxx (only difference is clock speed)

Thanks, i've looked a bit on the forum and saw that the I5-4430 could be the best choice.

Do you recommend a motherboard who match this CPU/CGU configuration (and RAM maybe) ?
