Recently one of my HDDs died, trust me it's dead. Tried to boot it but I just get stuck at POST. so decided to unplug it since I have another HDD connected. So here's the problem, I cant get past the Loading Operating System screen.

Extra info:
Was running dual OS, Win XP for the dead hddand Win 7 for the other hdd.
planning to buy a new hdd tomorrow, would that help my problem?

Thanks in advance!

Solution
If you do this, it would better if your old drive is physically disconnected from the PC while you install new drive and OS (then reconnect it when OS is installed on new drive).

here's what I am getting

"The boot configuration data store could not be found. The requested system device cannot be found"

George I have a quick question, what if let's say I just installed a new hdd with a new OS and attach my current HDD, would I still encounter the problem?

so a fresh os installed in a new hdd would solve it? I have no problem with that since all I really want is to salvage my files and maybe just reformat the old hdd. So i'll just set the old hdd as slave right?

Really appreciate the help George and I'm still trying to figure out the bcedit thing since I don't want your effort of helping me go to a waste :)

+1 on the SSD. I need to get another, but I'm a tech, and I'll tell you the systems and laptops I play with that have an SSD, WOW!! Night and day speed increase. I once cloned a failing drive to an SSD, went to boot, and it literally was on the the login screen within 30 seconds of hitting the power button, before I did much tweaking.

Yep would probably get one when I buy a new rig later this month, I guess a 64gb or 128gb would do right?

Btw I tried everything that you linked and I did everything that I can and I could not make it work. Tried to rebuild the BCD but it kept saying element not found, would just do plan B and do a fresh install. Thanks for the help!

If i manage to save up i would, everything costs way more here, a 512gb ssd costs around $240. Would just prolly wait for it to go lower around $150-170 lol
